An incredible woman with a fierce talent that’s slowly
(but surely) taking over the world.

Amy Maria Young was born on February 19, 1970, in Asheville, North Carolina. When adopted as an infant, Amy’s parents, Jane and Arliss, were given brief information on Amy’s birth parents. It was written (and was later confirmed to be false) that her birth mother was a singer. So, to keep that ‘connection’ between Amy and her birth mother, Jane did everything to support Amy as both a singer and performer. In 1987, Amy was North Carolina’s Junior Miss. She participated in several pageants as she grew up.

Amy attended Yale University with the intention of majoring in Physics. When she realized that she wasn’t meant to do Physics on the ‘world stage’, she finished with a double major in English and theater. While at Yale, Young also got the chance to continue exploring her love for singing as a member of one of the university’s a capella groups, Mixed Company. After college, Young booked the first national tour of the musical Meet Me in St. Louis and later moved to New York and eventually began landing roles on Broadway. Soon, Amy changed her name to ‘Bellamy’ after being told there was already an Amy Young when she joined the Screen Actors Guild.

Bellamy’s career stayed steady with countless movie roles and guest appearances in various shows, such as, ‘American Dreams, ‘Castle’, ‘Greys Anatomy’, ‘CSI: Miami’, and she also had a recurring role as Ellen Darling on ABC’s ‘Dirty, Sexy Money’ and as Beth Clemmons in CBS’s ‘Criminal Minds.’

Her dreams came true when she was chosen to play First Lady Mellie Grant in Shonda Rhime’s political drama, ‘Scandal.’ She became a regular character before the start of season two. She gave life to Mellie Grant until April 19, 2018. Mellie Grant started the series as First Lady and ended the series as President.

Currently, you can see Bellamy in ‘Bernard & Huey’, now on DVD, as well as a small role in ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ also available on DVD. Soon, you’ll see her as Karen Wheeler in ‘Love & Debt’, which also stars Tom Cavanaugh.
